Liberation Day (May 5) in Groningen should not pass completely in silence this year, says Reinout Douma of the Arctic Orchestra and singer Karin Noeken. The pair will perform Vera Lynn’s song “We’ll meet again” next Tuesday at 21:00, and are calling on all Groninger residents to sing along en masse, from their garden or balcony.
Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, all May 5 activities have been canceled, and the annual Liberation Festival in the Stadspark has also been canceled, reports the GIC.
The song will be performed by professional musicians, amateurs, dancers; actors and anyone else who wants to participate. People who want to sing or play along can register here. After registration, participants will receive instructions, the text and the notation.
Douma and Noeken have chosen the song ‘We’ll meet again’, from 1939, because is the closing song at the annual liberation concert on the Amstel in Amsterdam.
Participating institutions so far are: Arctic Orchestra, De Wijk De Wereld, SPOT Groningen, The North Netherlands Orchestra, The North Netherlands Theater, Club Guy & Roni, Martiniplaza and art and culture institution Friday.
