The café, which opened at the Nooderstationsstraat near the Noorderplantsoen this spring, is converting nearby parking spots into a patio space for customers.

Cars are out and patio tables are in at Café Bramble: thanks to permission from the municipality, the recently opened eatery can set up a temporary outdoor dining area in the parking spaces next door.
The café, which focuses on cocktails and wine, is currently the only establishment in the city with the set-up, which is meant to serve as a sort of pilot programme over the summer. The Groninger Internet Courant reports that two other local cafes are eager to try out the idea for themselves.
The idea came about last summer when the municipal factions of D66 and VVD suggested it as a potential option for the city inspired by a similar policy in Rotterdam, where cafes can apply to set up wooden patio flooring on top of parking spaces to increase their outdoor seating.
