Some faculties have reportedly seen a doubling in pre-registrations
The number of students at the RUG could well skyrocket in the next academic year, with some faculties even see a doubling of the number of pre-registrations, Ukrant reports.
The Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) and the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), see even greater growth, are the most popular, with some courses having double the number of pre-registrations. The overall average is a 25 percent increase.
“British variant”
“The British variant,” says Cisca Wijmenga, the Rector Magnificus. The explanation for the increase is a combination of Brexit (as a result of which students who otherwise wanted to go to a British university have now registered in Groningen) and the Coronavirus, with students opting against a gap year.
