The home of Peter den Oudsten, the mayor of Groningen, was broken into on Wednesday afternoon.

According to RTV Noord, the break in occurred on Wednesday afternoon and no one was home at the time. The police are currently investigating the break in, and it is not yet known whether anything was stolen from the home. Dagblad van het Noorden reports that there were multiple attempted breaks ins in the same neighbourhood.
Mayor Den Oudsten was called away from a municipal council meeting on Wednesday and informed of the break in. The vice chairperson of the council took over in his absence. Den Oudsten was also put forward by the King’s Commissioner René Paas to serve as the acting mayor of the newly redrawn municipality of Groningen following a merger with Ten Boer and Haren on Wednesday.
