Starting March 31st, Qbuzz will implement significant changes to its bus network in response to the extensive roadworks on Groningen’s southern ring road, dubbed “Operation Ring Zuid.”
Qbuzz emphasizes that these modifications are necessary to ensure smooth bus flow and maintain punctuality. However, passengers should be prepared for longer travel times on all bus lines in and around Groningen. Departure times will also be affected, even for some lines that do not directly serve the city.
Key changes to take note of:
- Increased frequency on Line 2: During peak hours, Line 2 (Zuidhorn – Zernike – Station Noord – UMCG – Europapark) will operate 4 times per hour, doubling its normal frequency.
- P+R Shuttle Service: Line 1/11 (Zernike – UMCG Noord – Hoofdstation) will operate between P+R Hoogkerk and the city center during peak hours.
- Temporary route alteration: Line 6 will temporarily not serve the route between Hoofdstation and P+R Haren. Q-link 5 will operate more frequently to compensate for this disruption.
- Increased frequency on key lines: Line 5 will see increased frequency during peak hours between P+R Haren, Hoofdstation, UMCG, and P+R Meerstad.
- Reduced frequency on other lines: Lines 3 and 4 will operate less frequently during this period.
- Qliner frequency reduction: Qliner 300 (Emmen – Groningen) and Qliner 304/314 (Drachten) will have reduced service frequencies.
- Splitting of Line 10: During weekdays, Line 10 will be split into two separate routes. The northern section will operate between Stations Noord, Korreweg, and Hoofdstation, while the southern section will cover the route from Hoofdstation to Martini Ziekenhuis and Hoogkerk. Passengers using Line 10 will need to transfer at Hoofdstation.
Additional night bus service:
To accommodate the high passenger demand and address the capacity constraints on the last Qliner 300 from Groningen to Gieten, Qbuzz will introduce an extra night bus service on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights between Groningen and Zuidlaren, Annen, and Gieten. Additionally, there will be adjustments to the schedules of night buses 406 (Groningen – Delfzijl), 417 (Groningen – Roden – Leek), and 409 (Groningen – Assen).
Passengers are advised to check the Qbuzz website for detailed information on specific route changes and updated timetables to plan their journeys accordingly during this period of disruption.
