A flock of scooter and moped riders took to the streets of Groningen Sunday afternoon, causing a scene as dozens rode through the residential areas, performing wheelies and power slides. The large group of two-wheeler riders took over the streets around 4pm, the Groninger Internet Courant reports.
The group gathered on Smirnoffstraat and then rode through the city center to the industrial district of Westpoort and Gideonweg.

When police arrived, most of the riders fled. Authorities impounded one ininsured scooter and issued 18 citations for various other offences.
According to the GIC, the racers wanted to draw attention to the lack of special spaces in the city where people can have fun on their motorbikes.
