Dagblad van het Noorden reports that when the comic book – Amazing Fantasy #15 – which introduced Spiderman was last sold at auction in 2011, the winning bid was more than 1.1 million dollars (991,000 euros). A representative from Catawiki told the Dagblad that they expect the auction on the rare comic book to be extremely competitive among collectors.
The Assen-based auction site, which is expected to achieve “unicorn” status (a startup with an estimated value of more than one billion dollars), is planning to auction off exclusive American comic books on a monthly basis and already organises weekly comic book auctions. A recent auction of the now infamous “Tintin in the Congo”, of which only seven copies exist, saw a winning bid of 39,000 euros.
Bidding on the comic book will remain open until the 11th of August.
