Starting in mid-May, a new tunnel will open in the station, and the station square and the Overcingellaan in front of the station will also reopen.
According to RTV Drenthe, construction will continue in certain portions of the station in the coming weeks. Flooring still needs to be installed, the current footbridge will be removed and the station signage also needs updating.
During the final phase of construction in the station, travellers will have to rely on replacement bus service: there will be no trains between 10 and 13 May to and from Groningen and Hoogeveen, and on 13 and 14 May, no trains will be running between Assen and Groningen.
