Police have been given extra time to question the man from Assen on suspicion of involvement in the death of his former Hungarian partner, RTV Drenthe reports.
The 52-year-old dental technician was arrested on February 14 after his ex-wife’s body was found in a rooftop cargo carrier dumped in a canal near the Drenthe village of Orvelte.
The man has been held in custody since then and the Public Prosecution Service (OM), who have not named him, said he had confessed to his involvement in his ex’s death in a written statement.
DNA tests have confirmed the identity of the woman, but the OM has released few other details of the investigation.
The body was found in the Oaranjekanaal in Orvelte on February 7. The victim had been missing for at least a year, according to the police.
