The Veemarktplein will hopefully be filled with attractions and rides between 4 and 13 September
If the Coronavirus doesn’t not throw a spanner in the works, Assen will have a fun-fair this summer. It is hoped that the Veemarktplein will be full of attractions from 4 to 13 September. As reported by the Asser Courant.
The Late Summer Fair Assen will have a size that is comparable to the annual TT Fair, says organiser Sander ten Bosch. Though the TT Fair could not be held due to the Coronavirus outbreak, Ten Bosch founded a company together with fellow organiser Tamara Boor to bring a fair to Assen this late summer.
“Also because we are part of the organization of the TT Festival, we have many contacts with fairground operators,” explains Ten Bosch. “They are having a very difficult time and because two large fairs are not taking place elsewhere in the country at the beginning of September, this seemed a good time to consider whether we can have a fair in Assen.”
The intention is that the Veemarktplein will be full of attractions from Friday 4 September to Sunday 13 September. In addition to smaller attractions and food and drink stalls, there will also be large rides such as the Booster, the Breakdance and bumper cars. The municipality is enthusiastic and wants to cooperate, but a second Coronavirus wave could possibly throw a spanner in the works.
“We are very concerned about that,” says Ten Bosch. “If it turns out at the end of this month that it is not yet possible to continue due to new developments surrounding the virus, we as self-employed people do have a problem. But if we don’t try, we won’t earn anything this summer and we just wanted to put some nice things in Assen. The vibe is really good now. ”
The Veemarktplein will have room for a maximum of 1,000 visitors at the same time, if the fair actually takes place. Normally, that number would be around 5,000. If it’s a success, the fair could even return next year, says Ten Bosch.
“It really depends on what the fair calendar will look like next year and how the TT Fair can take place. There is currently nothing to say about that. Let’s first hope that this edition can continue as planned. That would be very nice. ”
