Plans to renovate the Koopmansplein and make the city centre in Assen more compact were unanimously approved by the municipal council.
In the plans, the Koopmansplein will become a hub for retailers in the city and will be flanked by three walking paths. Changes may come to the streets adjacent to the square as well: some shops may be replaced by other services and additional residential space.
Dagblad van het Noorden reports that the council will set aside 3 million euros for the ambitious facelift. The plans will also rely on 3 million euros from the provincial city centre fund and 3 million euros from other external parties.
