The municipality of Assen and the province of Drenthe are campaigning to bring Formula 1 racing to the TT Circuit. A recent survey revealed that a “Drenthe Grand Prix” would raise the province’s profile and have a positive impact on the regional economy.
Alderman Henk Brink says that hosting a Formula 1 event in the Northern Netherlands could be a great opportunity to put the area on the world’s collective radar. Assen mayor Marco Out seconds that sentiment, citing recent investments in increasing crowd capacity: the longest grandstand in Europe will be built in Assen later this year.
Local government entities would not be involved in organising such an event were it to come to the region, but politicians at the municipal and provincial level are eager to help create more interest in a potential Formula 1 race in the region.
