Arriva train services in the Groningen area are to be scaled back as of May 2 as the operator is hit by staff shortages, the Dagblad van het Noorden reports. This will affect routes such as Groningen to Winschoten; Warffum to Groningen; Groningen to Zuidhorn; and Groningen to Zuidbroek. The company said that absences had been caused by rising staff sickness.
Among the services axed are express trains from Groningen to Winschoten.
The 07.35am and 08.05am services from Warffum to Groningen will also no longer be running.
Other services affected include the 08.24pm, 09.24pm and 10.24pm from Groningen to Zuidhorn; the 08.57pm, 09.57pm and 10.57pm from Zuidhorn to Groningen; and the busy service between Groningen and Zuidbroek.
In addition, the company will no longer operate any rush hour trains between Leeuwarden and Sneek.
The reduced timetable is introduced for an indefinite period of time.
