The incident happened on the Kromme Elleboog, in the city center. About 35 supporters attacked eachother with chairs, tables and bicycles flying through the air. The riots were short-lived: when the police arrived, the hooligans had already left. It was also restless in other places in the city center on Saturday evening.
The municipality then decided to have the emergency order, which initially would only take effect on Sunday morning, take effect earlier. The emergency order forbade the supporters of Bielefeld to stay in the municipality of Groningen.
With the emergency order they can be evicted from the city under the supervision of the police. On Sunday it was therefore very busy with police officers in the city. There were also large numbers of German tourists walking around the city, who were regularly confronted by the police.
FC Groningen played a practice match against DSC Arminia Bielefeld on Sunday afternoon at 2.30 p.m. The Groningers drew 1-1. Arjen Robben scored for the club.
