Robben scored his first goal in the stadium that he opened
Arjen Robben scored the first goal of his second coming for Groningen, opening the scoring in front of about 1,200 fans at the Euroborg on Saturday against Arminia Bielefeld.
After about fifteen minutes, Robben controlled a cutback from Mo El Hankouri, and slotted home from just outside the box. The match ended 1-1, reports the GIC.
Robben played 45 minutes of the game, showing not only his endearing class but also the overall bluntness of FC Groningen’s attack. That problem is not new, but with less than a week before the start of the competition it is becoming increasingly acute.
Arminia Bielefeld, promoted back to the Bundesliga for this season, scored an equaliser five minutes after Robben’s opening goal.
FC Groningen’s Eredivisie season kicks off away to ADO Den Haag and FC Twente, before the first home match against Ajax on October 4.
