All runners and walkers, including colleagues, classmates, friends, and family, are invited to join the campus residents for a fun sports activity, music, snacks, and fellowship! Enjoy being outdoors on the trail that winds around the campus buildings, businesses, teaching facilities, and labs. The event will take place on Friday, September 15 at 3:30pm at Campus Groningen at Zernike and is open to everyone, the organizers emphasize.
“We are thrilled that we are able to organize this sporting event again this year,” says Amber van der Schaaf, Manager of Communication and Events at Campus Groningen. “It’s a great way to get a behind-the-scenes look at many organizations and companies on the campus, as you run past buildings and locations you might not normally visit.”
The Campus Trail is an initiative of Campus Groningen, Hanzehogeschool Groningen, Groningen University, business association WEST, ACLO, the Sports Center, and Lode Holding.
A festive occasion
The 4 mile (6.5 km) route starts at Lode Holding headquarters, winds around various Hanzehogeschool and RUG buildings, meanders through a few sports facilities and restaurants where after a turn around, you end up back where you started.
“The exact route is currently being mapped out. It promises to be replete with fun obstacles, stairs, and undiscovered places,” Van der Schaaf says.
The Zernike-based Lode Holding specializes in manufacturing a wide range of products in the field of lifestyle, sports, prevention, and care. This year, the company is marking its 75th anniversary, which is why it is the starting and finishing point of the Campus Trail.
Manager of Business Development at Lode Holding, Annelies Wolters, says the trail is a great way to showcase physical activity on the campus: “A healthy environment for everyone, where movement contributes to a long and healthy life, is central to our company that is celebrating 75 years in existence this year. As co-initiator of the Campus Trail, we are proud that this sporting event will take place again,” she says.
