The Province of Friesland wants to make farmers more responsible for wild birds
Translated by Thomas Ansell
Several angry farmers have taken their tractors to protests in Leeuwarden today, reports the Omrop Fryslân. The farmers have gathered in front of the Province headquarters, ahead of a debate this afternoon.
New legislation being put forward would force Frisian farmers to leave aside a portion of their fields for birds to nest. Several farmers feel that they were left without consultation with the coming of the rule. Representatives from both the Farmers Defence Force, and the Dutch Dairy Famers Union were present.
This is the second time that Frisian farmers have protested against the legislation in Leeuwarden, with tens of farmers taking their tractors to the Province House two weeks ago.
