On Tuesday, almost 270 new international students started their exchange semester at the Hanze University of Applied Sciences. Rob Verhofstad, a member of the Executive Board of the university, officially opened the Welcome Day.
Students from all over the world study at the Hanze. The new group of people represents nearly 50 different nationalities.
Student associations IBS-U and ESN also took to the stage to explain what their organisations do for students in Groningen. Afterwards, the new students were introduced to Dutch culture.
During the information market in the afternoon, students registered for several student associations and learned more about student life. The International Service Desk of the university and representatives of the municipality, the police and the fire department were on hand to tell them all they need to know about living as a student in Groningen.
Students from outside of the European Union were already invited to the university the day before for the Pre-Welcome Day. The International Service Desk helped the new students with completing their enrollment, obtaining their residence permit and registering at the municipality.
