There will even be an ‘International Day’ on Friday
By Thomas Ansell
The beautiful Akerk in Groningen is a bit of a destination this week, with its summer activity programme for kids in full swing. Friday (16 July) is ‘International day’, where everything from workshops, to English-language films, to yoga sessions will be held. There’s
even a ‘grown-ups coffee corner’ for those that would like a little respite from their little darlings.
The day will kick off with some relaxing yoga: for parents and kids (2-5) at 09:00, followed by yoga for kids (6+) from 10:00. After the wind-down, the Akerk’s gorgeous interior will be explored through a workshop on flip-books (10:00-11:30).
Aside from the workshops, the church is also hosting its ‘Zienemini’ cinema for kids! The line-up include The Cricket (09:45-10:30), set to classical music and with illustrations by the renowned Czech artist Zdeněk Miler. Next up, the Disney classic The Hunchback of Notre Dame (11:00-12:45), followed by the Irish cartoon Wolfwalkers (13:00-15:00). For slightly older kids, there’s the Dutch original film (with English dubbing) Letter of Fire, which even features the notable historic figure of Marten Luther (15:30-17:35).
