Starting this winter, travelers from Groningen Airport Eelde will have a new sunny escape on their flight schedules: Hurghada, Egypt, a popular resort destination on the Red Sea.
The airport announced the new route on its official Facebook page, stating, “Hands in the air, we’ve got great news: a new destination! Package deals will be available for booking as soon as possible.” The flights will be operated by tour operator Corendon, which highlighted Hurghada as one of Egypt’s most sought-after beach resorts and a prime spot for sun seekers and water sports enthusiasts.
With the addition of Hurghada, passengers flying out of Eelde will have three winter destinations to choose from. Along with Hurghada, travelers can also book flights to Gran Canaria with TUI or take advantage of BBI Travel’s winter sports flights to the Scandinavian Mountains in Sweden.
The Groninger Internet Courant reports that the airport continues to expand its offerings to meet growing demand for winter getaways, making it a convenient option for travelers in the northern Netherlands.
Groningen Airport Eelde, located in the province of Drenthe, serves as a regional hub for northern Dutch travelers. Although smaller than the country’s major airports, Schiphol and Rotterdam, it has consistently expanded its route network over the years.
Popular destinations include Mediterranean hotspots like Alicante and Mallorca, and seasonal routes to winter destinations such as the Canary Islands and Scandinavia. With the addition of Hurghada, the airport continues to position itself as a convenient alternative for travelers seeking both leisure and adventure.
