A large flash with a green glow lit up the night sky over Friesland on Thursday around 2.50 p.m local time as reported in the Leeuwarder Courant.
Some witnesses described the phenomenon as a fireball being visible for a few seconds and shooting in a northerly direction, according to their Twitter reactions.
Uwanami Schmidt (@Uwanami_U1) saw a beam of light followed by a fireball when he was driving on the A31 near Hattem.
Employees at Leeuwarden Air Base also confirmed that they saw the light: ‘We have observed it here, but we have no idea what it was,’ says Air Base member Dian de Vries.
