Marketing Groningen is launching a crowdfunding campaign to create a (very small) cinema 45 meters up the Martini Tower.

A crowdfunding campaign for 50,000 euros to build a cinema inside the Martini Tower starts on Friday. If the cinema becomes a reality, it would be the highest screening space in the Netherlands.
Marketing Groningen is looking to restyle the interior of the iconic Groningen landmark, which is the sixth tallest church steeple in the Netherlands. “The tower will be redesigned in a way to create a new experience for visitors: we want to make climbing the tower a voyage of discovery, wonder, learning and imagination.”
The film space is not the only new idea for the tower. According to a press release, there are plans for a Martini Restaurant 70 meters up the tower, a Martini Bootcamp and acoustic concerts with room for an audience of 45 people.
Depending on the success of the campaign, the plan is to implement the new projects starting in November. RTV Noord reports that the upgrades would be carried out without having to close the tower to visitors.
The Voor de Kunst (For the Arts) funding campaign – www.demartinitorenherboren.nl – will run for the next four weeks, and 10 euros is the minimum contribution. As of noon on Friday, 1,185 euros had been donated.
What do you think about the plans? Does the Martini Tower needs a facelift, or do you love d’ Olle Grieze just the way it is?
