The number of active Covid-19 cases in Drenthe rose to 700 on Friday with the addition of 118 new cases in the past 24 hours, RTV Drenthe reports, citing figures from Dutch public health institute RIVM.
One resident of the municipality of De Wolden has died from the complications.
Emmen leads in most confirmed cases in the province, with 151 corona infections. Assen sits with a total of 78 recorded cases. It is not known how many of those infected have been hospitalized.
In total, 277,752 positive tests were registered in the week up to Friday morning nationwide. With the backlog added, the actual number of cases could exceed 300,000. On average, there were 39,679 positive tests per day in the past seven days, which is a new record.
Pandemic-related deaths are on the decline, however. In the last week, the RIVM has recorded an average of eight deaths a day from Covid-19, which is the lowest fatality rate since last October.
