The city of Groningen is acting on the housing shortage
The city of Groningen has presented plans for another large apartment complex, to be built on the Western side of the city. The building will offer living space for a cross-section of stadjers, with space intended for families, just-graduated workers, and students.
The complex of 575 homes will be built on the Friesestraatweg, reports the Groninger Internet Courant, and will be called ‘Portland’.
The Friesestraatweg has undergone a considerable metamorphosis in recent years, due to the arrival of several large new construction projects. Among other things the ‘Woldring locatie‘ has just opened, and consists of 435 apartments, of which several are still available.
The planned development of the area has resulted a building plan, consisting of 500 independent studios that are needed for the housing needs of young people (including international students) and 75 social rental apartments for two-person households, families and the elderly.
