The new timetable will save travellers around 10 minutes
Translated by Thomas Ansell
From September, travellers from Friesland will be able to go directly to Zwolle on an NS Sprinter train service, reports the Omrop Fryslân. Zwolle is the main interchange for trains from North to South in the Netherlands, but also connects to East/West trains, too.
Travellers getting on in Leeuwarden, Wolvega, Akkrum; or Grou-Jirnsum will save about 10 minutes on their journey time. At the moment, it takes just under 2 hours to get from Leeuwarden to Utrecht on an NS Intercity service.
At the moment, NS Sprinter services end at Meppel, but new infrastructure is connecting the line to Zwolle, allowing the faster Sprinter trains to run through. Connections to Groningen from places like Wolvega will also come down in time to just over an hour (although it may still be faster to go via Leeuwarden rather than Zwolle).
