World champion Magnus Carlsen finished in sixth

21-year-old Jorden van Foreest from Groningen has won the Tata Steel chess tournament in sensational style. Van Foreest settled in a tiebreak with another Dutch chess player and his friend, Anish Giri. They left world champion Magnus Carlsen (who finished sixth far behind). For the full award ceremony, see here.

The Tata Steel tournament is seen as the ‘Wimbledon of chess’. In other words, the highest ranked tournament worldwide. “As a kid I dreamed of playing with the best in the world at this tournament, but in my wildest dreams I did not expect to ever win the tournament”, says Van Foreest.
