The Groninger Internet Courant reports that the annual European music showcase confirmed the final eight acts on the bill for Eurosonic and the remaining 12 acts in the Noorderslag component. The organisers had already confirmed 290 acts that would be playing in the 2019 edition over the past few months.
Eurosonic Noorderslag is the name of the four-day-long music showcase for emerging European musical talent. Eurosonic is the first three days and features acts from across the continent, and the fourth day, Noorderslag, is dedicated to Dutch acts, both up-and-coming musicians and household names. The showcase has been held since 1986, and in 2005, it began featuring a different focus country or region in each year’s edition: in 2019, the spotlight will be on the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
There will be performances by around 350 musical acts at venues across the city of Groningen between the 16th and 19th of January, and ESNS19 will also organise a conference programme for members of the music festival, recording and broadcasting industries.
There are a number of awards ceremonies held in the city during ESNS as well, including the newly renamed Music Moves Europe Talent Awards (previously the European Border Breakers Awards). Former winners of the award, which recognizes emerging European artists, include Adele, Lykke Li, Mumford and Sons and Dua Lipa. One Dutch band – Pip Blom – is among this year’s nominees.
