Following the curfew, there were several riots throughout the Netherlands opposing the new anti-Coronavirus measures. Many of the riots became violent, and ended in the arrest of more than 150 people. However, the protests are seemingly likely to continue , as people resorted to social media to encourage insurrection.
In Meppel (Drenthe) a 20-year-old man was arrested today for inciting rioting via social media, reported Richard Korteland, the Mayor of Meppel.
“Incendiary behavior is not accepted or tolerated by the municipality of Meppel and the police,” wrote Korteland. “More arrests are likely to follow. Giving your opinion is fine, but it must be done with respect for other people’s property,” continued Korteland.
The police also arrested three minors from Drenthe on Monday. Allegedly, these three also used social media to encourage riots in Emmen, Assen and Beilen.
