A 12-year-old child was found dead in Groningen, in what local police are describing as “suspicious circumstances”.
Tragedy struck the Northern University town just three days before the start of the New Year as the child was found lifeless in a house on Blekerslaan street, located in the Oosterpoort neighbourhood.
In a statement, police said they made the grim discovery at 14:00 on Sunday.
“One person has been arrested. Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death,” police said. The suspect is said to be a 45-year-old man from Groningen. Police did not say whether the suspect knew the child.
Local media reports say police are searching the area near the house and are interviewing possible witnesses. Multiple police officers, a forensics team, and an ambulance were spotted at the crime scene.
